How to Deal With Bleeding Earring Hole?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Question

I have sensitive ear holes (for earrings) that tend to close up often almost. Getting water inside my ears not only hurt but made them bleed. Can I just let it close up, not purify it and never do it inside my ears in the future for ghusl for fear of pain and blood?

Answer

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

Yes, if you are facing difficulties, you can leave the holes for your earrings closed and your ritual bath (Ghusl) will be valid without the water reaching inside these holes. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

In short, for a valid Ghusl, water must flow over all the reachable body parts without difficulty. [Ibid]

From now on, wash the outer part of your ears without trying to make the water inside these holes. It is enough for a valid Ghusl in your situation. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Allah, Most High, says, “It is not Allah’s Will to burden you but to purify you and complete His favor upon you, so perhaps you will be grateful.” [Quran, 5:6]

And Allah knows best.
