Question: Assalam alaikum

My question is regarding the brand NYX cosmetics and its name origins, the name is apparently the Greek meaning of Greek goddess of the night and after reading interviews. Is it idolatry to buy it?

Is wearing and purchasing from designer brands such as Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and other brands featuring such specific Christian terminology shirk?

Answer:Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

No, it is not idolatry (shirk) to wear the specific designer apparel you mention. Such brand names do not have clear and immediate religious connotations. Similarly, wearing such clothing is not “imitation of the unbelievers.” Ethical considerations, however, are another matter.
