If One’s Dhuhr Prayer Crosses Into the Time of ‘Asr, is it Still Valid?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question

I was praying fard or Dhuhr when asr was called. Is my salat valid? I started before the asr adhan. Please answer urgently!

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

Yes, it would be valid if the Dhuhr prayer was started within its time and then continued and crossed over into the ‘Asr prayer time. The same ruling of validity applies to every obligatory prayer that continues past its own prayer time into the next prayer time, with the exception being the Fajr prayer, which is rendered invalid as soon as sunrise occurs.
