Is It Permissible to Work for a Company That Manufactures or Distributes Sex Dolls?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question

Is it permissible to work in a company involved in manufacturing or distributing sex dolls, including roles in management, delivery, or accounting? Would income from such work be considered halal?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate.

It is not permitted to work for a company whose main business is the manufacture or distribution of sex dolls, whether in management, delivery, or accounting. Income from such work would not be halal.

Allah Most High commands:

“Aid one another in devotion to your Lord in every good and godfearingness, and do not aid one another in sin and transgression.” [Quran 5:2; Keller, The Quran Beheld]

Not From The Wholesome

Sex dolls are made to provide sexual gratification outside the bounds of lawful marriage.

They normalize disordered sexuality, displace marriage from the human imagination, and are constructed for ends Islam prohibits without exception.

Whatever the role—whether packaging, delivery, office management, or accounting—one is directly assisting the core business activity, which is not permitted.

The Dangers of The Impermissible

Income earned from a business whose core is impermissible is itself impermissible to consume. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: “Allah is Pure and accepts only the pure.” [Muslim]

Shaykh Nuh Keller relates from a great spiritual master from Turkiye, Hajji Baba, that he strictly warned: “If you eat the unlawful, no prayer (salat) will be accepted from you for forty days.” And Hajji Baba also said, “For one’s supplication (du’a) to be answered, one may not even have a gram of the haram.” [Keller, Sea Without Shore]

This is rooted directly in the teachings of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), who spoke of “a man on a long journey, disheveled and dusty, extending his hands to the sky: ‘My Lord, my Lord’—while his food is haram, his drink is haram, his clothes are haram, and he has been nourished with the haram—so how should his prayers be answered?” [ibid.]

Our worship and its acceptance depend on lawful sustenance. Income from such a business undermines the foundation of one’s prayers.

If you are in such a position, you are responsible for seeking lawful work and leaving as soon as reasonably possible. Trust that Allah Most High provides for His servants, and that when one door closes, He opens another. Begin your search without delay.

Pray to Allah Most High to grant you income that is pleasing to Him. Whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah grants them better in its place.

And Allah knows best.
