People May Have Walked on Filth in My Room: Has It Spread All over My House?

Question: As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu,

My blanket that was soiled with mani went onto the floor in my room. After smelling both the blanket and the floor, it seemed as though the filth had transferred on to the floor. To make matters worse, others had entered my room and I am almost certain that their slippers have contracted the filth. I felt I had to smell some of their slipper soles. I fear that our prayers are not being accepted due to the spread of filth in the house. Should I act upon my concerns?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

You should wash away the filth from the blanket. If there are any traces of the filth on the carpet, you should also wash that area.

As for smelling carpets and slippers, this is contrary to proper decorum and not called upon by the Sacred Law.

Ignore misgivings, even if strong. [see: A Reader on Waswasa (Baseless Misgivings)]
