Was it Okay to Dispose of My Hair in The Toilet?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I disposed of my hair in the toilet. At that time, I didn’t know the rulings. So is it okay, or what should I do?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health.

Throwing away anything that is separated from a living human is disliked. Scholars mention that one should bury everything, such as a limb, hair, nails, and the like. That is separated.

The reason is that Allah Most High has honored every part of the human being:

“Verily, we have honored the Children of Adam.” [Quran, 17:70] Also, this was from the habitual practice of many of the Companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and the early Muslims. [Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya]

As Muslims, we should have a habit of burying everything that separates us from our bodies. Unfortunately, many Muslims, being aware, still disregard this practice and dishonor separated human tissue.

Allah Most High gives us every success to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and his companions. Amin.
