Question

What is the Ruling if someone performs a prayer without wudhu/ghusl Intentionally?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for asking and showing regret and remorse in seeking guidance to get to know a ruling.

If a person performs the prayer without wudhu, he has not committed an act of disbelief (as long it is not done knowingly in jest and mockery) just like if a person performs his prayer away from the qibla or with an impure cloth. [‘Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

The above issue clarifies that you haven’t performed the prayer out of mockery, neither it was an intentional sin. It was just a moment of reaction that you ended up doing for some prayers. You will just have to repeat the prayers, repent and ask forgiveness from Allah (Most High) from doing such. He understands all our situations. Just pray to Him that He gives you sound wisdom and knowledge in a similar situation in the future.

Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness

We ask Allah (Most High) to make us from those who continuously turn unto Him after having done wrong, never despair and He is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Allah says in the All-Mighty Quran:

“Say Prophet, that Allah says,’ “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran, 39:53]

The Companion Abu Huraira (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, ‘By Allah, I ask Allah’s forgiveness and turn towards Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.’” [Nawawi, Riyad al-Salihin]
