What Is the Textual Proof That Smoking Marijuana Is Strictly Prohibited?
Question: What is the textual proof that smoking marijuana is strictly prohibited (haram)?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Anything that intoxicates in large amounts then a little of it is forbidden (haram).” [Tirmidhi; Abu Dawud]
The Qur’an clearly prohibits wine (khamr). The reason for such a prohibition is understood to be the covering of the intellect. [Jassas, Ahkam al-Qur’an; Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
By extension, the scholars have taken the prohibition applicable to everything that shares the same legal cause, i.e. the covering of the intellect, intoxication. [Ibid.]
I hope this helps,
Allah knows best.
