Is Rain During a Funeral a Sign of Felicity?

Question:
Is rain during a funeral a sign of felicity?
Answer:
Dear questioner,
May Allah, Most High reward you abundantly for your desire to increase in knowledge.
In Islam, rainfall during a funeral is not a sign of felicity nor punishment of the deceased.
Our Mother Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) said that when The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) would see rain he would say: “Mercy.” [Muslim, al-Sahih]
Rain is a sign from the signs of Allah, Most High just as the moon, sun, and stars are.
Allah, Most High says: ”Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth; the alternation of the day and the night; the ships that sail the sea for the benefit of humanity; the rain sent down by Allah from the skies, reviving the earth after its death; the scattering of all kinds of creatures throughout; the shifting of the winds; and the clouds drifting between the heavens and the earth—˹in all of this˺ are surely signs for people of understanding.” [Qur’an, 2:164]
We should remember that even though rain is not a sign of felicity, a funeral is still a time of grief and sadness. It is not a time to immediately raise one’s voice in correcting people’s statements etc.
One should wait until after the funeral to privately advise someone who may have spoken out of ignorance.
And Allah knows best,
