Is It Sufficient to Wear Baggy Trousers and Long Tops with a Hijab?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I’d like to know if I can wear oversized baggy trousers and long oversized shirts that come just above my knees with a hijab. It doesn’t show the shape of my waist, chest area, or even my arms. Sometimes I wear oversized blazers too because they are thicker. I also check that there is no print or attractive design on them. All of them are plain solid colored. Does this defy my hijab? Or is it okay? I don’t wear maxi dresses because they don’t cover my ankles, and usually, the waist is cinched and gives away the shape of my mid area and upper body.

Answer

Thank you for your question. Ma sha Allah, may Allah reward you for your muraqaba (self-observation) and for sincerely wanting to execute your hijab correctly. Yes, what you describe sounds perfectly adequate. May you spread your example around to others, and may Allah bring benefit through you.

May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
