Is It Obligatory for a Woman to Pray While Sitting in a Public Place?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

Is it permissible for women to pray normally in public spaces, or should they only pray whilst sitting in a chair? I was praying in a park and was told by a lady that it was haram to pray like that when there were men around, and that I should only pray sitting in a chair.

Answer

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward the intentions of that lady, but I’m afraid she is mistaken, this is why it is incumbent that all Muslims review their personally obligatory knowledge and not spread ignorance among the Muslims.
