Am I Considered Excused (Ma‘dhur) If I Frequently Pass Small Amounts of Gas Unpredictably?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Am I considered excused (ma‘dhur) if I frequently pass small amounts of gas unpredictably? Can I pray in the mosque despite this condition?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
You are not considered legally excused (ma‘dhur) for mere frequent flatulence.
One is considered to have a chronic excuse (ma‘dhur) only if the issue that does not allow them to retain or make wudu, lasts for an entire prayer time, such that there is not enough of a gap of time to perform a valid wudu and prayer. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
If this is the case that you are dealing with, then you are indeed excused. [Ibid.]
Note that the wind itself is pure despite its exiting breaking the wudu. So, having uncontrollable flatulence does not prevent you from entering the mosque. You would only be prevented from entering the mosque if you suffered from a condition that may lead to impurities coming in contact with the mosque. [Ibid.]
