Do I Have To Keep Checking If Impurity Has Been Discharged?

Question:
Assalamu ‘alaykum. I am a female, and recently I feel like any small sexual thought of my husband or looking at anything sexual in nature accidentally causes me to release some discharge. However, I am not sure if it is actually coming out. I just think it does because of some feeling. It has come to the point where I am constantly cleansing myself many times a day due to this problem. Do I have to keep doing this or shall I assume I am still pure?

Answer:

Wa ‘alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh..

I pray you are well.

No, you do not have to keep cleaning yourself if nothing has come out. Normal discharge is not impure, and it does not invalidate wudu. Only the discharge which accompanies sexual pleasure or a wet dream requires ghusl. (Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar)

Do not keep checking either. it seems you have OCD in this matter. Many a time, its symptoms can include having a physical sensation of something happening. Given that you are not sure if anything comes out despite checking multiple times a day, it is safe to say there is nothing there and you can stop.

Please take one of our fiqh courses. It will give you clarity on the rulings. Also, please bear in mind the words of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) “Indeed [the practice of] the din is ease itself.” [Bukhari] If some element of your practice is causing unnecessary stress there is a problem in the way you are applying it. That is where learning fiqh comes in.

May Allah grant you ease and wellbeing.
