Is It Permissible to Wear Nail Polish or Press-On Nails During Menstruation?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Is it permissible to wear nail polish or press-on nails during menstruation, given that wudu and ghusl are not performed, considering the concern of dying while wearing them, and water not reaching the nails during the final ghusl?

Answer

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

It would be permissible to wear the above while menstruating. However, it is important to remember your valid point that in a situation where someone is destined to have died, the nail polish will have to be removed by those washing the deceased’s body.

Since nail polish prevents water from reaching the nails, it must be removed before performing wudu and ghusl for the deceased woman.
