Can I Date Someone Who Is Accused of Murder?
Shafi'i Fiqh
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
I want to date a man who has been accused but not convicted of murder. Is this a sin?
Answer
Thank you for your question. I don’t recommend doing this because dating is impermissible in Islam. If you want to marry this man, it is not sinful to consider it.
However, because he is not yet convicted for this crime, you should wait and see what verdict he gets. You don’t want to get engaged to someone in jail because it’s too unpredictable and not an optimal situation for you.
Do pray Istikhara: The Prayer of Seeking Guidance from now, asking Allah Most High to guide you, and see how his situation unfolds. May Allah give you success and the best-suited spouse to you.
