Can Dress Materials Be Sold Online Without Exact Measurements?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is it permissible to sell dress materials online when exact measurements of cloth or lace are not provided, but the customer can reasonably estimate based on images and general expectations?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
If the measurements of dress materials are easily discernible via the picture offered by the seller or based on market standards and customs, it is permissible to sell such items without explaining the exact measurements. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
That said, it is best if you add such measurements, as it is more conducive to a mutually pleasing transaction. [Ibid.]
Allah Most High says,
“O believers! Do not devour one another’s wealth illegally, but rather trade by mutual consent. And do not kill (each other or) yourselves. Surely Allah is ever Merciful to you.” [Quran; 4:29]
Hope this helps
