Is Using AI for Child-Friendly Islamic Education Permissible?

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Is using artificial intelligence for child-friendly Islamic education permissible, and what limits apply?

Answer

I pray you are well.

Yes, this would be permissible if artificial intelligence is being used to develop child-friendly educational material.

The Necessary Limits

The applicable normal limits are clear. The content must be wholesome. This means:

  • You are not teaching immorality.
  • You are not teaching indecency.
  • Nothing should make children see what is wrong, vile, immoral, or haram as something good.

It cannot promote anything that contradicts the basic tenets and premises of Islam.

To do so would be impermissible.

Keeping the Message Clear for Children

With children’s education, it is generally straightforward. The message should be simple and clear, teaching right and wrong.

Even the names used do not have to be specifically Islamic. One may use Islamic names or non-Arab names.

For example, naming someone Rose or Victor is fine.

What matters is that the overall message remains moral, wholesome, and free of anything indecent.

If these conditions are met, then it will be fine, insha’Allah.

And Allah knows best.
