How Can We Protect Our Children from Doubts About the Quran and Revelation?
Answered by Shaykh Anas al-Musa
Question
There are doubts being spread about the divine revelation and the Quran. How can we protect our children from these doubts?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger sent as a mercy to the worlds, our Master and Prophet, Muhammad, and his Family and Companions.
False Claims
Throughout history, enemies of Islam, both in the past and present, have sought to cast doubts on the divine revelation and the Quran. These doubts are weak and baseless. For instance, some claim that the Quran is from Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace), that he invented its meanings and formulated its style, and that it is not a revelation from Allah (Most High).
They also argue that, due to his intelligence, he comprehended the standards of good and evil through inspiration and discerned hidden matters through personal insight or psychological revelation. They claim that the Quran is merely the product of intellectual deduction and emotional intuition, expressed by Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) in his own style and eloquence. Methods
As for how to protect our children from these doubts, there are many methods, including:
- Discussing these doubts about the revelation and the Quran openly with our children and refuting them, so they are not left as victims to those who cast doubts on the Quran.
- Teaching children the correct creed from a young age, clarifying the meaning of faith in the prophets and the divine scriptures.
- Encouraging children to engage in reflective reading of the Quran, pondering its meanings, and understanding its interpretation from trustworthy sources, is one of the best ways to protect our children.
- Choosing a righteous environment for our children and distancing them from anything that may confuse their thoughts, whether it be a friend, book, or visual or audio lecture.
Lastly, I advise you to read to their children “al-Naba’ al-’Azim” by ‘Abdullah Daraz, as it contains many responses to the most dangerous doubts raised about the Quran and revelation. In addition, returning to books on the sciences of the Quran (‘Ulum al-Quran) will help in understanding the meanings of revelation as explained by scholars.
May Allah bless the Prophet Muhammad and give him peace, and his Family and Companions.
