How Can One Grow in Religious Commitment If They Don’t Feel a Natural Inclination Toward It? – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Question
How can one grow in religious commitment if they don’t feel a natural inclination toward it?
Answer
Religious growth requires intention and effort. Here are three key steps:
Reflect Deeply
Think about the gift of life, faith, and the Hereafter. Read the Quran, reflect on its meanings, and study the Prophet’s life (peace be upon him) to awaken the heart.
Seek Good Company
Stay close to those who strengthen your faith. Allah says: “Be mindful of Allah and be with the truthful.” [Quran, 9:119]
The Prophet said: “A person follows the religion of their close companion…” [Abu Dawud]
Take Consistent Steps
Start small: regular prayer, Quran recitation, and kind actions. The Prophet said: “The most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if small.” [Bukhari; Muslim]
Through reflection, company, and steady effort, one can grow spiritually—even without initial inclination.
