Should I Retest for STDs Since There Were Slight Complications During the Test?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

After repenting from minor zina and testing negative for STDs, should I have tawakkul despite slight testing imperfections, or should I retest out of caution?

Answer

Thank you for your question. Zina is not minor; sexual intercourse outside marriage is an enormity and requires sincere repentance. Would you like for your sister or daughter to marry someone who wasn’t sure if he had STDs or not?

Retest

I don’t know whether you are suffering from waswasa (baseless misgivings), but I recommend you retest anyway because the safety of another person is involved. Confirm whether you are negative or positive and make it clear to any girl you plan to marry. May Allah keep you healthy and safe.

Rely on Allah

Always have tawakkul in your Lord because He continues to grant us blessings we don’t deserve. Anything that He decrees is perfect, and any difficulty that we face is a result of what our own hands have brought. I commend you for repenting from your sin, and I pray that your future is bright and in line with His good pleasure. From this point on, make the right decisions.

Find solace in Allah’s promise in the Quran:

“(…) And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide for him from sources he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Indeed, Allah has set a measure for all things.” [Quran, 65:2-3]
