What Are the Easiest Deeds That Have Great Rewards?
Answered by Shaykh Anas al-Musa
Question
What are the easiest deeds that have been assigned great rewards in Islam?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger sent as a mercy to the worlds, our Master and Prophet, Muhammad, and his Family and Companions.
There are many simple and easy deeds for which sacred Law has assigned great rewards. Some examples include, but are not limited to:
Tasbih (Glorifying Allah)
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Is any one of you incapable of earning a thousand good deeds every day?” One of those present asked: “How can any one of us earn a thousand good deeds?” He said: “Say SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah) one hundred times, and it will be written for him as a thousand good deeds or a thousand sins will be erased from him.” [Muslim]
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) also said:
“Two words are light on the tongue, heavy in the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘SubhanAllah al-‘Azim (Glory be to Allah, the Great) and SubhanAllah wa bi-hamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him).’” [Bukhari]
Salawat Upon the Prophet
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send ten blessings upon him, and ten sins will be removed from him” [Ahmad]
Charity and Kind Words
‘Adi Ibn Hatim reported that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Guard yourselves against the Fire, even if it is only with half a date, and if you cannot find that, then with a kind word.” [Bukhari]
Fasting Three Days of Each Month
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Fasting three days of every month is like fasting for a lifetime.” [Ahmad]
Conclusion: Sincerity in Actions
Lastly, I remind you of an important matter that a Muslim should never forget: the acceptance of deeds, whether great or small, depends on sincerity. One will not attain the rewards attached to these deeds without sincerity, which means that the intention behind the action is solely for the sake of Allah (Most High).
May Allah bless the Prophet Muhammad and give him peace, and his Family and Companions.
