What Should I Do after Girls Discovered That I Was Making Fake Accounts with Their Pictures?

[July 6, 2023] [Ustadha Shazia Ahmad]/in General, Living Religion, Repentance

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I made fake accounts with the names of girls and posted their photos. Now they know, and I feel bad. What can I do?

Answer

Thank you for your question. Allah is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful; you should repent and apologize and delete the accounts.

Forgiveness

Although you did something despicable, Allah loves to forgive, and He forgives all sins except shirk (associating partners with God). Allah Most High has told us in His book, “Truly, Allah loves the oft-repentant, and He loves those who purify themselves.” [Quran, 2:222]

And He (Most High) said, “Say: My servants who have wronged yourselves, never despair of God’s mercy. God forgives all sins: He is truly the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.” [Quran, 39:53]

Remorse

The fact that you have remorse and regret is a good sign of your repentance being sincere. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Remorse is repentance.” [Ahmad; Ibn Maja]

Intend never to repeat such an action, take a break from social media, focus on renewing your prayers and knowledge, read the Quran daily, and spend time rejuvenating your body, mind, and soul. Drop all these useless distractions and fill your day with goodness from morning to night.
