What Type of Actions Brings Peace to the Mind?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

What are some of the practices in Islam which are done for the purpose of bringing peace to the mind? example: Dhikr, Murakaba

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

All of the actions of Islam if done with the appropriate intention, sincerity, and reverence will bring about a state of stillness and tranquility to the heart and mind. However, some are more direct in bringing about such a state than others.

Below are two of the most effective actions:

Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr)

Allah Most High says, “…those who have faith and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of God- truly it is in the remembrance of God that hearts find peace-…” [Quran, 13:28]

Recitation of the Quran

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “No people gather in a house of the houses of Allah Most High reciting the Book of Allah and studying it amongst themselves except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelopes them, Angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those in His presence.” [Abu Dawud]

Hope this helps
Allah knows best
