What Should One Do If a Dream of the Prophet Seems to Conflict with Shari’a?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

I read that if you see Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) in a dream then it’s him, but also reports that they have seen Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) saying things against shari‘a in their dreams, how do we reconcile

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

Recognizing True Dreams of the Prophet

It is true that if one sees the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) in a dream, it is considered a true vision of the Prophet and a good sign.

Responding to Conflicting Messages in Dreams

The specific details of the dream depend on the purity of one’s heart and spiritual state.

One should take the vision as a glad tidings from Allah Most High. As for anything that goes against the Sacred Law, that should be abandoned.

Hope this helps
