Question
I performed my first ‘Umra without being in a state of valid ihram. I performed another ‘Umra later correctly. What must I do about the first one?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
If your first ‘Umra was invalid because you did not enter into the state of Ihram, then if you performed a second ‘Umra by going to the miqat, in your case Tan’im, Masjid ‘Aisha, and completed the ‘Umra normally without any Ihram violations, fulfilling all the rites of ‘Umra, it would be acceptable and valid.
Obligatory (Fard) Elements of the Ihram
Entering into a state of ihram for ‘umra consists of:
- making the intention to perform ‘umra
- and saying the talbiya in an audible voice.
This must be done before passing one’s respective designated boundary (miqat).
Once one enters into a state of ihram, one cannot release oneself from it without first completing the remaining rites.
It is important to note that one must enter into a new state of ihram for each ‘umra that one performs.
