Is It Permissible to Earn What You Did Not Work For?
Answered by Shaykh Muhammad Carr
Question
Is it permissible to receive a commission for a call that my account manager added to my quota to assist me, even though I did not personally work on it?
Answer
May Allah reward you for ensuring that your earnings are halal.
Receiving a commission for a call added to your quota by your account manager is permissible. This can be considered a gift from the account manager, which is allowed as long as it does not infringe on anyone’s rights.
May Allah reward you for your concern, and may He guide us all to maintain a clear conscience and pure intentions, seeking lawful earnings as prescribed by Allah (Most High) who reminds us in the Quran: “And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers.” [Quran, 5:88]
I pray this is of benefit and Allah guides us all.
