Is Upper Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Permissible?
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) permissible if it would improve light exposure to my eyes and reduce eye strain and headaches, even if it has cosmetic benefits as well?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
Yes. It is permissible to have such a surgery as there is a need/benefit therein. Prohibitions concerning surgeries that change the human body are for those surgeries that are merely cosmetic without legally recognized needs. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]
Hope this helps
