Can a Divorced Woman Remarry After Being Abandoned During ‘Idda?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Can I consider a new marriage proposal if my husband divorced me, left without providing for me during ‘idda, and I’ve had no contact with him for two months?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question. I am sad to hear about the abuse you were subjected to.
If three months of the waiting period (‘idda), three menstrual cycles, have passed since your divorce, your waiting period (‘idda) is complete. You can now consider a new proposal.
The waiting period (‘idda) for a woman who has been divorced, provided she is not pregnant, is three complete menstrual cycles (haydh). [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
