Question: Assalam ‘alaykum,

Is snail slime impure?
Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,
I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
No, snail slime is not filthy. [Hamawi, Ghamz `Uyun al-Basa’ir `ala al-Ashbah wa al-Naza’ir, quoting Sughdi’s al-Nutaf fi al-fatawa]
Snails are not in and of themselves filthy, yet they are considered to be from the foul things (khaba’ith) [7.157] and are thus not eaten, like insects.
