Raising Hands for Du’a Qunut of Fajr Prayer in the Hanafi School

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Can you tell me the ruling of raising your hands in salah for dua after the 2nd rakat in the Fajr prayer in the Hanafi madhab?

Answer: Walaikum assalam,

I pray this finds you in health and good spirits.

It is in itself better to keep hands to the side during the recitation of the qunut prayer (such as by a Shafii imam) at Fajr. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah, with Tahtawi]

But if everyone raises their hands and doing so would confuse people, then it may be better to raise hands–(1) in order to conform with the group in an ultimately permissible matter; and (2) to avoid confusion and discord.

And Allah knows best.
