Will My Hajj Be Valid Despite Paying It With Overdraft Money by Mistake?

Question: Assalam alaikum,

At the time that I needed to put down a deposit to secure my booking for hajj I paid the money from my primary bank account and did not realise that the account had gone into overdraft. Later the same day I detected that this had occurred and then immediately set out to rectify the problem.

Will my hajj will be accepted or not?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

On the assumption that this is an interest bearing overdraft, and considering that it happened in error, ask for forgiveness and continue on in high spirits.

Focus on the days and nights to come, and the tremendous opportunity which Allah Most High has blessed you with. And remember that repentance wipes out the sin and its traces.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) also said, “Whoever goes on hajj for Allah alone and does not have sexual intercourse or commit any outrage will return as he was on the day his mother bore him.” [Bukhari]

His journey for seeking sacred knowledge began when he privately memorized the entire Qur’an in his hometown at the age of 16. He also had his first experience in leading the tarawih (nightly-Ramadan) prayers at his local mosque. Year after year he would continue this unique return to reciting the entire Quran in one blessed month both in his homeland, the UK, and also in the blessed lands of Shaam, where he now lives, studies and teaches.
