Does Islam Have Predestination?

Question: Does predestination apply to the Hereafter?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

Yes, predestination does apply to the Hereafter. Everything that is, was, and ever will be is known by Allah in all its details and niceties, and it has all be ordained.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Allah pre-ordained the decree of all of creation (al-khala’iq)  fifty thousand years before He created the Heavens and the Earth.” [Muslim] I do not see any rhyme or reason in restricting this decree to This Life and not seeing it as inclusive of the Hereafter.

If someone believed that predestination did not apply to the Hereafter because of their ignorance of the Qur’an and Sunna, or because they were simply confused about something, then they would still be a believer.

If however, they acknowledged that the Qur’an and Sunna do indeed state that everything in the Hereafter is also pre-ordained, but then rejected it, then they would be a disbeliever.

The simple solution is to learn. Please consider taking this course:
