Why Will Women Be Lonely in Paradise While Men Enjoy All the Rewards?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I understand that a woman only gets one husband and a man gets many wives in Paradise. I really hate being alone. Since the man will have many wives to spend time with, it means that a woman will spend a lot of time alone since her husband has so many wives waiting for him to visit.

Will there be at least friends for her to spend time with while he is with his other wives? It’s sad that men have many wives dedicating all their time to them while women are left alone.

Answer

Thank you for your question. Fear not, women will not experience loneliness, sadness, fear, or anything negative that your mind can conjure up.

Our Limited Reality

We, with our finite understanding of space, time, and this world, cannot begin to fathom what Paradise will be like. However, we have been given indicators as to its infinite joys, peace, fulfillment, and ultimately, the greatest gift, gazing upon the countenance of our Lord.

The Beatific Vision

Imperceptible

The indescribability of Paradise is seen here:
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), said, “Allah the Exalted and Glorious, said, ‘I have prepared for My pious servants which no eye has ever seen, and no ear has ever heard, and no human heart has ever perceived but it is testified by the Book of Allah.‘ He then recited, ‘No soul knows what comfort has been concealed from them, as a reward for what they did.’” [Muslim]

The Ultimate Pleasure

Allah’s Messenger, (Allah bless him and give him peace), said, that Allah would say to the inmates of Paradise: “‘O, Dwellers of Paradise,’ and they would say in response: ‘At thy service and pleasure, our Lord, the good is in Thy Hand.’ He (the Lord) would say: ‘Are you well pleased now?’ They would say: ‘Why should we not be pleased, O Lord when Thou hast given us what Thou hast not given to any of Thy creatures?’ He would, however, say, ‘May I not give you even more excellent than that?’ And they would say, ‘O Lord, what thing can be more excellent than this?’ And He would say, ‘I shall cause My pleasure to alight upon you and I shall never be afterward annoyed with you.’” [Muslim]

Loneliness

Although it seems to you that you will be left alone, that is not the case. A believer will have family, friends, and much company with whom to share their pleasures. In short, the inhabitants of Paradise will want for nothing. May Allah grant us all that immense end.
