Can I Get Cosmetic Surgery Because My Nose Causes Me Depression and Fear of Marriage?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

I just want to know if it‘s haram to do plastic surgery on my nose because I‘ve been depressed for 3 years now. I want to marry and I‘m scared of even looking for a guy because of my nose.

Thank you for your question. If you want cosmetic surgery for purposes of beauty alone and not due to a medical reason, damage, or abnormality, then it is not permissible to have it.

Although you may think that your nose is the center of everyone’s attention, you should understand that it is not and that Allah is the best of creators. Don’t measure yourself by how you look, but value yourself for who you are and what you are. I am certain that there are many suitors out there who would be happy to marry someone like you. Believe it and come out of your shell. It’s never just about how you look, it’s about how you carry yourself, and that you do control. See this useful article:

Your depression of three years sounds far more serious to me than your nose. Please seek medical help or therapy, and know that you can heal and move forward in your life.
