Sharing Verses About the Qur’an
Question Summary
I said many things without knowledge in the past, like “oh, in Quran, it talks about the big bang.” And my primary objects were scientific facts. But as I am more understanding now, I take what I talk about Islam seriously. I don’t say without knowledge. Now the question is, I have said this stuff too many friends and other people in the past. Do I have to tell friends from the past about this? If so, how do I say this as there are many things I don’t know the right way to say and end up saying wrong.

Sharing Information About the Qur’an
To share verses of the Qur’an may be fine as long as they are limited to unambiguous (easy to understand) verses. In other words, the type of verses that require no elaboration or contextualization.
Please note that verses requiring explanation should be understood in light of the traditional works of exegesis (tafsir) and should ideally be studied with qualified scholars.
Be Aware Before You Share
We encourage you to practice caution when relying on the internet for information about Islam and ask those who know when you do not. We also encourage you to have a good intention for sharing verses of the Qur’an with your family and loved ones. One should intend thereby to call people to Allah and encourage them to reflect and ponder the Book of Allah (The Majestic and The Wise). Allah says: “But warn by the Qur’an, he who fears My Warning.” [Qur’an 50:45].
Past Mistakes
If you can remember what you said and to whom you said it, you may explain your error. If you can’t remember or this is too difficult, then your repentance (tawba) to Allah is sufficient, and Allah knows best.

Shaykh Irshaad Sedick was raised in South Africa in a traditional Muslim family. He graduated from Dar al-Ulum al-Arabiyyah al-Islamiyyah in Strand, Western Cape, under the guidance of the late world-renowned scholar, Shaykh Taha Karaan.

He is the author of the text “The Musnad of Ahmad ibn Hanbal: A Hujjah or not?” He has served as the Director of the Discover Islam Centre and Al Jeem Foundation. For the last five years till present, he has served as the Khatib of Masjid Ar-Rashideen, Mowbray, Cape Town.
Shaykh Irshaad has thirteen years of teaching experience at some of the leading Islamic institutes in Cape Town). He is currently building an Islamic online learning and media platform called ‘Isnad Academy’ and pursuing his Master’s degree in the study of Islam at the University of Johannesburg. He has a keen interest in healthy living and fitness.
