Is There Any Hadith That Talks About the Fall of al-Masjid al-Aqsa?

Answered by Shaykh Irshaad Sedick

Question

Some people I have met believe there is a hadith about the fall of al-Masjid al-Aqsa, and they feel it must happen. They seem to follow certain YouTube channels spreading this idea, but I have never heard such a hadith from the scholars of Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama‘a. Could you please shed some light on this?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah alleviate our difficulties and guide us to what pleases Him. Amin.

Is There a Hadith About the Fall of al-Aqsa?

There is no authentic hadith in the reliable collections of the Ahl al-Sunna that foretells the fall of al-Masjid al-Aqsa. Scholars of hadith have not recorded such a narration. What is being spread on some platforms is more likely a rumor, weak reports, or fabricated material that gains traction online.

Allah Most High says: “O you who believe! If a sinner comes to you with news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance and then become regretful for what you have done.” [Quran, 49:6]

Our duty is to distinguish between reliable scholarship and unverified claims, especially regarding sacred sites such as al-Aqsa.

Practical Guidance

  1. Verify before believing: Always check whether a hadith is recorded in authentic sources and accepted by scholars.
  2. Avoid sensationalism: Do not let YouTube or social media dictate your religious beliefs; instead, seek guidance from qualified teachers.
  3. Focus on responsibility: Our concern for al-Aqsa should be through dua, awareness, and support for justice, not unfounded predictions.
  4. Strengthen faith: Occupy your heart with the Quran, authentic Sunna, and remembrance of Allah instead of chasing doubtful reports.

I pray Allah grants us clarity, protects us from misinformation, and makes us supporters of truth and defenders of His sacred symbols.

And Allah knows best.
