Should a Suspicious Puddle Be Treated as Impure?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
If I step on a yellow puddle and suspect it might be dog urine due to surrounding clues, but did not see the dog urinate, must I treat it as impure or assume purity since certainty is not lifted by doubt?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
As long as you are not reasonably sure or certain that the puddle was affected by dog urine, the puddle is considered pure. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
Hope this helps
