How Should We Address Questions About Aisha’s (Allah Be Pleased with Her) Role in the Battle of the Camel?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

How can we respond to claims questioning Aisha’s (Allah be pleased with her) actions during the Battle of the Camel, including her presence at night and not leaving the battlefield like other companions?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The Battle of the Camel (Ma’raka al-Jamal)

After the assassination of Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (Allah be pleased with him), the Muslims were in an uproar and demanded that his murderers be taken to task. After the decision not to retaliate was made by the successor, Caliph Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib, our mother ‘Aisha (Allah be pleased with her), among some companions, expressed disagreement with this decision.

Those who agreed with our mother  ‘Aisha (Allah be pleased with her), escalated the issue and turned the disagreement into a conflict and confrontation.
