Why Do I Keep Getting Sabotaged Despite My Commitment to Allah?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
Why do important moments in my life keep getting sabotaged despite me praying and fasting? How can I break this cycle and move forward?
Answer
Thank you for your question. Allah’s wisdom is greater than our understanding, and these moments of sabotage may carry hidden blessings.
Test
It was narrated from Mus‘ab ibn Sa‘d that his father, Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas, said:
“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The Prophets, then the next best and then the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him.’” [Ibn Majah]
Allah (Most High) has told us in the Quran,
“Do people think once they say, ‘We believe,’ that they will be left without being put to the test? We certainly tested those before them. And (in this way) Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars. [Quran, 29:2-3]
Allah (Most High) has told us in the Quran,
“Perhaps you dislike something, and it is good for you; and perhaps you love something, and it is bad for you. Allah knows, while you do not know.” [Quran 2:216]
Consider these sabotaged moments as a test of your character, a test of your patience and a test of your religion. This is why humans were put here on Earth. Will we pass these tests? All bliss, perfection and ultimate joy is for the hereafter.
Commitment
You say that you are committed to Allah with your prayer and fasting, but I encourage you to improve, for they may be lacking. Have you studied your personally obligatory knowledge to ensure your worship is valid? Do you worship sincerely? Do you fully trust in Allah’s wisdom and timing? Are you making enough dua to build your relationship with your Lord? Are you seeking forgiveness morning and evening? Are you giving enough charity? Charity blocks calamities in this life.
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Whoever persists in asking for forgiveness, Allah will grant him relief from every worry, and a way out from every hardship, and will grant him provision from (sources) he could never imagine.” [Ibn Majah]
