Does the Prophet Know the Unseen?

Can You Help Me Find a Supplication Made by Aisha?

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: There is a supplication made by Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) when she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to teach her the name of Allah by which if He is called He answers.

Could you please provide this dua in Arabic where I can learn it and transliteration of possible?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

The specific tradition (hadith) in question is reported by Bayhaqi in his al-Asma’ wa al-Sifat.

The wording of the supplication is as follows:

“O Allah, verily I ask you by all of Your Beautiful Names, those we know from them and those we don’t, and I ask you by Your Name the Mighty, the Most Mighty, the Great, the most Great, by which you answer the one who supplicates by it, and give to the one who asks.” (Allahumma inni as’aluka bi jami` asma’ika al-husna kulliha, ma `alimna minha wa ma lam na`lam, wa as’aluka bismika al-`azim al-a`zam al-kabir al-akbar, alladhi man da`aka bihi ajabta, wa man sa’alaka bihi a`tayta)

However, the most telling of supplications are those made from a sincere, needy heart from a person focused on what they are doing and whom they are addressing.
