What Is the Meaning of the Hadith About the Euphrates Uncovering a Mountain of Gold?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
What is the meaning of the hadith about the fourth tribulation lasting eighteen years and the Euphrates uncovering a mountain of gold?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
Some hadiths about the Euphrates drying up are weak, although there are authentic hadiths in Bukhari and Muslim.
Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: “The Day of Judgement will not occur until the Euphrates recedes [dries up], revealing a mountain of gold, over which people will fight. Among every hundred, ninety-nine will be killed, and each one of them will say: “Perhaps I will be the one who survives.”
[Bukhari; Muslim]
