Is It Permissible to Accept Payments If Part of the Money May Be from Riba?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is it permissible to accept tuition payments from a father when there is a concern that part of the money may involve riba, though he believes it is permissible due to differing fiqh?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
If the entirety of one’s wealth is from impermissible sources, it is not permissible to take money. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
If their wealth is a mixture of usurious and permissible wealth, it is permissible to take from them to the extent of the permissible wealth. [Ibid.]
Hope this helps
