Is It Valid to Marry a Man Who Left the Qadiyani Faith Even If His Family Still Holds Qadiyani Beliefs?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is it valid to marry a man who left the Qadiyani faith, now affirms the finality of Prophethood, and lives as a Sunni Muslim, even if his family still holds Qadiyani beliefs? How should we approach future issues like religious harmony, family ties, and raising children?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I hope you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question and concern about your prospective marriage and its possible future implications.
Marriage in Islam occurs between Muslims who believe in the finality of Prophethood. Your prospective husband identifies as a Sunni Muslim and rejects Qadiyani (Ahmadiyya) beliefs, especially the claim that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was a prophet.
Your concern is valid; their beliefs won’t affect your marriage’s validity. Discuss this with your family and prospective husband, seeking guidance from a trusted local scholar to remain firm in your faith. Together, find ways to support each other and manage family dynamics. Their influence may impact future interactions, so setting clear boundaries is essential.
Select the Religious
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) encouraged Muslims to marry for the right reason, saying, “A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, or her piety. Select the religious; may you be blessed!” [Bukhari; Muslim] This applies to both genders.
Allah Most High destine what is good (khayr) for you both. Pray istikhara for guidance on this matter.
