Should I End a Relationship with a Righteous Woman Because of Her Father’s Sinful Reputation?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Should I end a relationship with a righteous woman because of her father’s sinful reputation?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
You married a righteous woman, as you mentioned, not her family. A righteous woman, especially one who grew up amidst sin but chose righteousness, is often stronger, more discerning, and more faithful than someone who never faced that choice.
Allah Most High said, “No soul burdened with sin will bear the burden of another.” [Quran, 6:164]
If she is pious, kind, modest, and righteous, she is a blessing, even if her family member has a reputation. Remember: Allah may be testing your sincerity and trust in His guidance.
Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) said, The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman; otherwise, you will be unsuccessful.” [Bukhari]
