Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is the dua اللهم حبب إلينا الإيمان… from the Sunna or authentically reported from the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) or his Companions?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
This portion is part of a long dua and supplication reported in various books of hadith:
It has been reported by Rifa’a Zurqin (Allah be pleased with him) that during the Battle of Uhud, when the polytheists had retreated, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Line up so I can praise my Lord, the Almighty.” So they lined up behind him in rows. He said:
“O Allah, all praise belongs to You. O Allah, You do not withdraw what You have bestowed, nor do You bestow what You have withdrawn; You do not guide whom You have led astray, nor do You mislead whom You have guided; You do not give to those whom You have withheld from, nor do You withhold from those whom You have given; You do not bring near what You have distanced, nor do You distance what You have brought near.
O Allah, spread Your blessings, mercy, grace, and provisions upon us. O Allah, I ask You for the everlasting bliss that does not change or cease. O Allah, I ask You for comfort on the Day of need and security on the Day of fear. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given us and the evil of what You have withheld from us.
O Allah, make faith beloved to us, make it beautiful in our hearts, and make us hate disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience, and include us among the righteous. O Allah, let us die as Muslims, keep us alive as Muslims, and unite us with the good people without disgrace or trials.
O Allah, fight against the disbelievers who deny your messengers and hinder your path and bring upon them your wrath and punishment. O Allah, fight against the disbelievers who were given the scripture, O God of truth.”
