I Feel Anxious About the Conflict Between India and Pakistan. Any Advice? – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question

What should I do if I feel anxious about a potential war between Pakistan and India?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

Look Through the Eye of Faith: Trials Are From Allah

As believers, we begin by recognizing that everything occurs by the will and wisdom of Allah Most High. Situations of tension and conflict—whether personal or political—are part of the trials and tribulations (fitan) that characterize this worldly life. Our faith reminds us that our test is not the event itself, but how we respond to it.

Our Responsibility: Respond With Purpose, Not Panic

One. Reaching out to family and loved ones in affected regions to reassure and support them.

Two. Making dua (supplication) for peace, protection, and the well-being of all involved.

Three. Avoiding a reactionary emotional response, instead responding with wisdom and concern. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:

“Do not long to meet the enemy, but ask Allah for well-being. Yet, if you do meet them, then be steadfast. And know that Paradise lies under the shade of swords.” [Bukhari]

A Call to Strategic and Principled Action

When provoked, the believer does not simply react. The believer responds in a way that is pleasing to Allah, measured, thoughtful, and principled.

Pray for All Involved

We ask Allah Most High to protect all those affected, especially the believers in both Pakistan and India. We pray that events unfold with peace and mercy, and that, regardless of the outcomes, Allah brings about what is ultimately best for the believers and for His creation.
