Legal induction by laymen

Question: Are laymen obliged or even allowed to make analogies from fatwas that he hears?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

A layman is not obliged or even allowed to make analogies from fatwas that he hears. If a specific fatwa is given for one specific case, he may not infer that it also applies to another case that is similar in his eyes. He must ask a scholar or mufti to see if the new case is indeed the same as the previous one.

I pray this helps.
