Should I Follow My Istikhara Even Though I Don’t Like It?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I dated a guy and performed istikhara before we told the family and it seemed to be positive. He wasn’t agreeing to the marriage, it’s already been a year trying to convince his dad so I performed istikhara again if I should marry this man or not. Three days later, he himself said he doesn’t want to marry me, out of nowhere. I still want to marry him, should I try to mend things with him for marriage. Or accept Allah’s outcome from the istikhara I performed?

Answer

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. SubhanAllah, I’ve never seen so many clear signs in my life. Walk away, sister.

Istikhara

It’s very important that you understand Whom you are seeking guidance from. You are asking the Lord of the Worlds, the Creator of space, time, all creatures, and all that you can imagine. He has bestowed Muslims with the gift of this prayer and expects the one who prays it, to follow the indications He gives. Your wondering at what the answer might be is baffling to me. Please find a man who respects you enough not to date you, but who only expects you to be with him after he puts food in your mouth, a roof over your head, and clothes on your back.

Keep this hadith in mind:

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) told us, “Your love for a thing causes blindness and deafness.“ [Abu Dawud]

What Should I Do If I Prayed Istikhara and I’m Still Unsure?

May Allah give you the best of this world and the next.
