Is It Haram That the Shape of My Ears Show with My Hijab?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
I wear a tight hijab to cover my neck and hair, but the shape of my ears is visible despite my efforts to hide them. Is this permissible?
Answer
Thank you for your question. It is permissible that the shape of your ears show.
Modesty
Islam is a religion of modesty. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Every religion has its distinct characteristic, and the distinct characteristic of Islam is modesty.” [Ibn Maja]
And the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “There is never any obscenity in a thing, but it mars it, and there is never any modesty in a thing, but it adorns it.” [Ibn Maja]
I believe you will find, with time, that you will be more comfortable in a looser style, and you will appreciate the extra modesty as well. Until then, you are fulfilling your obligation.
