Are Certain Supplications Obligatory for a Valid Prayer?

Question:

What are the minimum requirements for a valid salah? Can I skip the tasbih in the sujud and ruku’? Is saying the takbir between the movements necessary? Do I have to recite the whole Abrahamic Prayer (al-Salat al-Ibrahimiyyah) after the last rak’ah?

Answer:

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for your sincere inquiry and may He give you a complete understanding of this worship.

Please consider taking a free course here at Seekers in order to learn and review your personally obligatory knowledge of worship. With this knowledge, you will know how to purify, wash, pray, fast, and be confident that you are not making any mistakes. You will also be able to distinguish clearly between the integrals and main sunnahs of the prayer.

The first two examples that you mention in your question are all sunnah elements and their omission would not nullify the prayer. Part of the Abrahamic prayer is an integral, and part of it is a main sunna, while the rest is sunna.

Nevertheless, these elements should not be omitted without an excuse, and one should be avid to perform the prayer in such a way that is conducive to Allah accepting that prayer. May Allah reward you for your sincerity and give you the best of this world and the next.
